One Minute Remaining

Launched in September 2022 by Jack Laurence, a former award winning Australian radio host with 14 years of experience, One Minute Remaining – Stories from the Inmates quickly became a global sensation. The show amassed nearly 6 million downloads in under two years, won the award for best Indie crime podcast of 2023 and is now listened to in over 130 countries. It even features a fully dubbed Spanish version.

The podcast focuses on sharing the stories of men and women who have been convicted of crimes—narratives that are often overlooked. Jack approaches each story with an open mind and a non-judgemental attitude, allowing those he interviews to share their experiences authentically. His unique documentary-style storytelling quickly propelled the show to the top of the Australian podcast charts, reaching the number one spot on Apple and Spotify within just three months of its release, and it continues to dominate the charts.

One Minute Remaining began with the goal of giving incarcerated individuals a platform to tell their stories, letting listeners—who now refer to themselves as the OMR Jury—decide on the innocence or guilt of those featured. The show delves beyond personal stories, exploring the broader judicial system, from initial crime investigations, police interrogation techniques, and forensic evidence gathering, to courtroom proceedings, appeals, and life behind bars in the United States.

The show has covered fascinating and complex cases, featuring individuals who maintain they were wrongfully convicted, as well as those who admit guilt but believe their sentences are excessively harsh. One Minute Remaining has brought to light stories that would otherwise go untold and has followed cases that gained major media attention. Notably, it witnessed the exonerations of Evaristo Salas Jr. and Christopher Dunn—two men wrongfully convicted as teenagers who finally regained their freedom decades later.

While the show doesn’t shy away from the harsh realities of prison life, including stories of violence and daily struggles, its primary focus is on the human side of incarceration and the often flawed systems that keep these individuals behind bars.

Jack Laurence:
Jack Laurence spent over 14 years in the Australian radio industry, hosting shows alongside notable personalities such as Dave Hughes, Kate Langbroek, Carrie Bickmore, Tommy Little, and Hamish and Andy. Throughout his career, Jack won multiple radio awards and worked in nearly every market across the country. In 2022, seeking a new challenge, Jack left his breakfast radio role at 2Day FM in Sydney and moved his family back to the Gold Coast with the intention of starting a podcast.

While initially researching stories for a podcast unrelated to true crime, Jack stumbled upon the case of a woman incarcerated in Florida who claimed she was wrongfully convicted. After their first phone call, Jack felt a spark of inspiration—and so, One Minute Remaining – Stories from the Inmates was born. Launched in September 2022, the show surpassed one million downloads within nine months. Two years later, One Minute Remaining has released over 200 episodes, is listened to in more than 130 countries, and has amassed nearly six million downloads.

In 2023, Jack launched his second true crime venture, Wanted, a twelve-part mini-series that quickly climbed the podcast charts, garnering over 300,000 downloads. In May 2024, recognising an opportunity to bring crime stories to the world of sleep, Jack created Crime at Bedtime, inspired by audience feedback about listening to crime shows while drifting off at night. In just four months, Crime at Bedtime accumulated over 300,000 downloads and broke into the top ten crime podcast charts in five countries.
